History of Village Lanes
Village Lanes was built in 1964 and opened for the 1964-65 bowling season. It was originally an 8 lane center with night leagues only. Emmet, and MaryAnn Vandenberg owned and operated the center for seven years along with the help of their five children.
Village Lanes was considered a beer bar and attracted many 18 year olds. In 1972, Village Lanes was sold to Les and Pat Winuis who along with their seven children ran the business. The drinking laws where changed by this time to 18 being legal age to drink beer or liquor thus eliminating the so called beer bars. In 1974 Les added an additional 4 lanes to the center and later added 4 more lane making it the 16 lane center it is to date.
Collen McMahon and Sherry Vandenberg purchased the center from Winuis in 1979. The two ran the center till 2002 at which time Colleen McMahon bought out her business partner Sherry Vandenberg. She celebrates 30 years in business this November 1, 2009.
